Today is a big day for football as NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) goes into effect. This will no doubt have an impact on college football recruitment, but what that will look like remains to be seen. Here are some of the great stories about BC recruiting at the time.

* If you missed it, Noble Thomas, from University High School in Orange City, FL chose the state of Iowa on Wednesday. His last two were Boston College and the Cyclones and ended up at ISU. Not surprising, but don’t be surprised if the Eagles are chasing after Zilan Williams from Dematha Catholic to fill this space.

* Heard Boston College sees its odds with a four-star cornerback pretty good Cam Johnson (St. Frances Academy, MD) and Safety / Linebacker VJ Payne (Buford, GA). Both recently visited Chestnut Hill and the visits went very well. BC appears to be fighting Virginia Tech for Johnson, and Payne looks like he’s going to sign while there is still room.

* There are still two silent pledges (promised but not public) that BC is waiting for. We have already made our predictions that these will be recruits Gilbert Tongrongou a defensive end from Woodbridge, VA and Kivon Wright a defensive end from Manvel (TX). Both sides are expected to make their announcements on July 4th. So stay tuned for the BC Bulletin to see if we’re right.

* If you look at the Boston College class they are now playing a numbers game. With RJ Marylandand two silent commitments they sit at 21 commitments. That being said, they can’t take in everyone they’re still interested in as they hit the maximum recruit limit that the NCAA allows them to do.

With Maryland and, most likely, two defensive ends coming on board, they could be done with these positions and have no room for further engagements at that point. This can of course change with layoffs that are inevitable, but look to BC to keep some wiggle room in case a can’t be missed recruit shows interest or there is a transfer required for 2022.

* There are around 5-10 recruits available for these remaining places who are still “takes” or who are being retained by the Eagles employees.
