Maryland Terrapins College Football 2021 Preview: Offense

– The terp offense was hilarious as hell. There were moments when it couldn’t be stopped – like the comeback win over Minnesota – and other times it did absolutely nothing. it couldn’t lick the ball against Indiana, it didn’t seem to score against Rutgers even though the O was rolling, and it was planted all over the face against Northwestern.

There is experience. There is talent. There is a team of coaches with high end assistant resumes who should know how to do this rock. Oh yeah, the 2021 terps will be a lot of fun, but consistent? That’s another problem …

– The Terps have their quarterback. There could have been a battle for performance if VMI transfer Reece Udinski hadn’t suffered an ACL rift late in the FCS Spring 2021 season, but even if he were healthy it would be Taulia Tagovailoa’s job. He threw too many picks and – like the rest of the O – he wasn’t consistent, but he’s still growing into the job.

He has the receiver to throw. If this isn’t Maryland’s greatest strength, it is number 1A with almost everyone who comes back to it. Anyone can hit the home run – the top four guys average nearly 15 meters per catch – and it’s a big group. It starts with 6-3 Dontay Demus – who led the 24 platoon team – as captain, but he’s not alone with more rifle groups around the rest of the veteran receiving the corps.

– The game in progress didn’t work well enough and now lead rusher Jake Funk is out of the mix. He ran for 516 of the team’s 725 yards and three of the five points – Tagovailoa got the other two.

Meny Boone is a 6-1,245 pounder and Senior Tayon Fleet-Davis is 220 pounds. There may not be much flashlight in this group, but it’s okay for the O leadership to do their job.

The first five lost security guard Marcus Minor against Pitt and center Johnny Jordan against Virginia Tech, but three starters return around Jaelyn Duncan, a 6-6, 315-pound left winger that should be a suspension for the All-Big Ten team . Passport protection is Job One after the last seat in the conference in bags that are allowed per game.
