Dynasty Sleepers: Operating Again (2021 Fantasy Soccer)

Those of you reading this know that the season for die-hard fantasy soccer fans never ends. That’s why the Redraft format just won’t cut it and won’t scratch the constant itch on your back. This is where Dynasty Leagues come in, and this is where I will focus my attention in today’s article. I’ve been working on my projections for the upcoming season and for Dynasty formats, and there are people who immediately turn out to be undervalued. With FantasyPros ECR, I have identified three Dynasty Sleepers that I will target in my upcoming Dynasty designs wherever I can get them. Let’s get started right away!

Kenny Gainwell (RB – PHI): RB48 Age: 22
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gainwell was a promising prospect for Memphis and put the entire 2020 season on hold. He fell by the fifth round in this year’s draft, but ended up in a favorable position. On the face of it, Gainwell’s stock seems pretty low as he slips in behind Miles Sanders and competes with Kerryon Johnson and Boston Scott for the backup job. But could he immediately find value and work out a role as a newbie? It is very possible. His head coach will be a Frank Reich student in Nick Sirianni, so a multi-back approach might be an option.

In Gainwell’s final season with Memphis in 2019, he showed off his receiver skills by snapping 51 balls for 610 yards and three touchdowns. Sanders is a dependable pass-catcher too, but Gainwell’s skills should enable him to see the field as a free back early in his career with multiple ways in which to contribute. He’s the second best player on the squad and it wouldn’t be surprising if he took over the field in 2021. Gainwell is available in Dynasty formats for a very affordable price, which is why it’s one of my favorite Dynasty sleepers on the run back.

Salvon Ahmed (RB – MIA): RB62 Age: 22
Despite the appearance of Myles Gaskin last season, Ahmed also made a name for himself. He received four starts as a rookie and a total of at least 17 touches and a total of 74 yards in three of them. In two competitions where he received at least 20 touches, Ahmed averaged 109 yards and one touchdown. He is only 22 years old and has a lot of potential for the future. Gaskin is locked up as Miami’s repatriate … or is he? Despite having had the best season of his career, Gaskin is far from entrenched as the dolphins are returning.

The Dolphins didn’t add significant value to this year’s draft, and the only notable signer was Malcolm Brown, who has a total of 1,515 yards and 12 touchdowns over six NFL seasons. Miami added Will Fuller and Jaylen Waddle in the passing game, but it’s unclear whether the offense will run through Tua Tagovailoa or the running game for the foreseeable future. Tua struggled to make big games as a rookie, and the Dolphins could opt for a run-heavy approach this season and beyond. Ahmed is definitely worth a look, especially as the RB6 dynasty.

Eno Benjamin (RB – ARI): RB84 Age: 22
The traffic jam walking back in Arizona could have gone as quickly as it started. James Conner and Chase Edmonds will be UFAs in 2022, paving the way for a new Arizona to take over the reins of the backfield as early as next season. Conner has struggled to stay on the field for the past two seasons, while Edmonds hasn’t seen as much workload as he likely expects in 2021. Benjamin could see his role expanding this season if one of the backs in front of him is injured. but its real dynasty value is next season and beyond.

Benjamin didn’t see the field as a freshman, but with the ranks of Cardinals free agents running back in 2022, he’s someone I don’t want to get my Dynasty team on until RB84. In his last two seasons in Arizona, Benjamin got 77 receptions for 610 yards and four touchdowns while producing a total of 30 touchdowns. He has the skills to be a three-down player and his previous rank in our ECR makes him a real sleeper.
