Ex-local highschool soccer participant charged with homicide in deadly shootout
MART, Texas (KWTX) – Zamar Kirven, 21, who was recruited from the Mart in 2018 by the University of Houston, where he served as linebacker for three seasons before being fired for violating team rules in December 2020, was released on December 31, 2020 Charged Thursday with murder in an April shooting that killed two men.
Sabion Kubitza, 22, and Jacob Ybarra, 20, were shot dead on April 18 at around 2 a.m. in the 1100 block of Texas Avenue across from the Western Hotel.
The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office said Kubitza and Ybarra were killed in the same house and may have been sleeping when they were shot.
Kirven and the two victims grew up watching soccer, the authorities said.
The motive for the shooting is unclear.
Kirven was arrested Thursday without capital murder charges and in lieu of a $ 25,000 bond on marijuana possession charges.
