Excessive Faculty Soccer: Arch Manning, Quinn Ewers in High 5 Gamers to See in 2021

The 2021 high school football season is less than 100 days away and is expected to start as normal in all 50 states. MaxPreps will be releasing our preseason content starting June 23, when we release our MaxPreps Top 25 High School Football Preseason Ranking.

A look at the nation’s elite programs is followed by breakdowns of the top teams in each state, the biggest games, the toughest schedules, and the top players in each position. Our preview of 2021 ends at the end of July with the release of our preseason MaxPreps All-America teams.

But first, let’s take a look at the top five most anticipated players entering the 2021 season. This list is based on expectations for the fall and what impact they will have on their respective teams.

The top-rated candidate in the Class of 2023 was the MaxPreps Sophomore Player of the Year 2020 after topping the state of Georgia with 21.5 sacks. Overton helped lead the Eagles to an 11-1 record on the grid last season and also helped Milton to an AAAAAAA state championship on the basketball court. Ohio State, North Carolina, and Stanford are among the schools that have offered him a scholarship for both sports.

The country’s top-rated player was the sixth player in the history of the 247Sports Composite, who received a perfect rating of 1.0000 last December – alongside Rashan Gary (2016), Robert Nkemdiche (2013), Jadeveon Clowney (2011), Ernie Sims (2003) and Vince Young (2002). The five-star quarterback helped the Dragons finish second in Texas’s largest classification last season and was named MaxPreps Sophomore Player of the Year in 2019.

The top-rated cornerback in the 2022 class dominated both sides of the ball in his junior season. He helped the Eagles make their first appearance in the state title in 2020 and was named MaxPreps Junior Player of the Year after scoring 137 receptions for 1,746 yards and 24 touchdowns while recording 51 tackles and eight interceptions on defense.
