Florence will maintain a multi-million greenback highschool soccer match for three extra years
For the next three years, the city of Florence will host one of the state’s premier high school softball tournaments.
More than 50 schools across northern Alabama came to Florence for the North Regional Softball Tournament in 2021. The tournament brought in more than $ 1.1 million to Florence.
Sports and group sales manager Tyler Dolan said the tournament is expected to have the same economic impact in the years to come.
“That’s exactly what we’re about; Bringing events here to the Shoals region that will help support the Shoals region, ”Dolan said.
He said the presence of the softball tournament and its effects are being felt across the community.
“It’s been a huge impact for us and all business owners, local business owners,” Dolan said.
“If you’ve been out on the town this week, chances are someone with a sports team or a softball team jersey is out at dinner, or some fans are out in town.”
Restaurants weren’t the only ones to benefit from the additional business. The tournament brought around 1,800 hotel visits.
Dolan said companies are seeing the effects of the tournament and are working hard to make sure it keeps coming back.
“That’s the nice thing about this event. It’s a team effort that the whole city is working towards and we are all feeling the effects of it. So we all work together to bring them here every year. “
Dolan told WAAY 31 that they are in contact with the Alabama High School Athletic Association to help host more sporting events in the future.
