Franklin Excessive Faculty Soccer Daren Walker cannot un coach the staff

With high school football practice starting next week, longtime Franklin High School coach Daren Walker is absent.

Walker is unavailable as a coach, and assistant coach Leigh McWhorter is serving as deputy head coach, according to El Paso Independent School District officials.

Walker was a mainstay on the sidelines in El Paso and one of the best coaches in town. He was Chapin’s head coach from 200 to 2006, winning 47 games. His 2006 team won 12 games.

Franklin's chief football coach Daren Walker, right, is currently not on the program and is not available as a coach, according to EPISD officials.

Walker began training with Franklin in 2007 and he had tremendous success. His 2011 and 2012 teams won 10 games and bi-district playoff games, and his 2018 team won nine games and a bi-district championship. Several of Walker’s assistant coaches have got head coaching jobs over the years, including Mark Torres, Ruben Torres, Frank Martinez, and Patrick Brown.

McWhorter returned to El Paso this year as Franklin’s offensive coordinator and has coaching experience in El Paso and across the state. He is a former assistant coach at Andress.

Where will El Paso’s 32 high school soccer teams stand in the 2021-22 season?
