Greatest West Alabama highschool soccer video games on schedule for 2021

Alabama high school football season is only three weeks away, and the Tuscaloosa area has teams that can make names across the state.

Here’s a look at the top 10 games slated for West Alabama as picked by Tuscaloosa News high school sports reporters Jerell Rushin and Jarod Hamilton.

1. Gordo versus Northridge

When: Week 6 (September 24th)

Gordo will be able to make up its only 2020 regular season loss when it takes on 6A Northridge. The Jaguars have three massive offensive linemen, two with FBS offerings, and second year athletic cornerback TJ Banks. Gordo, led by senior all-state quarterback Tanner Bailey, is another contender after making it to the 2020 AHSAA 4A state championship game.

Both teams hit points low in the 2020 regular season matchup (17-13), but this year’s game could be higher as the team’s strongest units are experienced.

2. Northridge vs. Hillcrest

When: Week 7 (Oct. 1)

Weeks 6 and 7 are Northridge’s toughest course of the year as it takes on regional rival and 6A state championship contender Hillcrest. Northridge fell 49:21 against Hillcrest and electric quarterback Ethan Crawford in 2020. As in Week 6, Northridge may have better scoring opportunities behind a deep offensive line unit.

3. Bibb County vs. American Christian Academy

When: Week 5 (September 17th)

Bibb County are 1-2 all-time against ACA after losing 56-13 in 2020. That game was the de facto Class 4A Region 3 championship as ACA Bibb County gave their only region defeat, finishing 7-0.

ACA doesn’t have many tried and tested guns, but does bring in Tuscaloosa County’s transfer playmaker Christian Davis, who has offers from three FBS programs. Bibb County is led by offensive lineman Bo Burkes, who has preferred walkable offerings from North Carolina and Marshall.

4. Linden vs. Pickens County

When: Week 2 (August 27)

This is a rematch of last year’s 1A championship game that saw Linden complete a perfect season, beating Pickens County 32-8.

Pickens has three all-state players returning this year with second linebacker Korbit Sommerville, senior wide receiver Jacoris Barnes and senior athlete Javion Belle. Linden lost five players that made up the all-state team.

5. Gordo vs. Northside

When: Week 4 (September 10th)

On the way to their seventh straight season with 10 wins last year, coach Ryan Lolley and Co. defeated Northside by two scores and won 27-13. Northside shouldn’t be taken lightly, however, as it defeated Madison Academy in the second round of the playoffs last year.

While Gordo has Bailey as quarterback, Northside is a dominant team that will likely try to milk the clock. This game can be about who got the ball last.

6. Hillcrest vs. Tuscaloosa County

When: Week 2 (August 27)

This will be a matchup between two teams that have new coaches on top. Both coaches also come with winning pedigrees. Hillcrest trainer Jamie Mitchell has won state championships at the highest level in Arkansas and Mississippi, while new TCHS trainer Adam Winegarden has made a state championship appearance with Auburn in 7A.

7. Hillcrest vs. Demopolis

When: Week 11 (October 29)

This game will be a test of the Hillcrest Offensive as it competes against one of the best defensive teams in West Alabama. Demopolis held six teams on 14 points or less last year. Crawford threw over 2,000 yards and had 22 touchdowns last season.

8. Hubertville vs. Berry

When: Week 4 (September 10th)

Hubbertville’s new coach, Caleb Hynds, is returning as a coach against the team he just led to the semi-finals in the playoffs. Last season Berry defeated Hubbertville 26-0, Hynds is now on the other side with all-state running back Gage Alexander. He is trying to change the fortunes of Lions.

9. Pickens County vs. Hubbertville

When: Week 3 (September 3)

Pickens defeated Hubbertville twice last season, including a 40-24 win in the third round of the playoffs.

This will likely be an offensive game as Hubertville averaged 34 points per game last season while Hynds led his former team Berry to 32 points per game.

10. Berry vs. Northside

When: Week 1 (August 19)

Berry will compete against 4A Northside in a rematch from Week 1 of the 2020 season in which Northside defeated Berry 27-7. This season, Berry is ready to return the favor.
