Hialeah-Miami Lakes Excessive Faculty soccer coach had relationship with teen scholar, police say – NBC 6 South Florida
The Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School soccer coach has been arrested on charges of having a romantic relationship with a 17-year-old student, police said.
Edward Malachi Williams, 44, was arrested Wednesday and charged with criminal offenses against students by authorities, according to an arrest report.
The student told detectives that she and Williams waited until they were 18 to be a couple in public, the report said.
She also told the detectives that they never had sex and waited until she was of legal age, but they kissed, held hands and “fell in love,” police said.
Police also saw text messages from Williams to the students saying, “I’m so broken about how it all turned out, I never thought this would happen, one day singing and having fun until the next day of All over, can you call me for a second, I’m literally sitting here with us. “
Williams, who is also a pastor and youth mentor, is staying at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for a $ 7,500 bond, online records show. Information about the lawyer was not available.
Williams worked at the Miami-Dade County Schools from 1999 to 2017. He returned in June last year and has no prior disciplinary history, the district said.
“Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) are concerned to learn of this allegation,” the district said in a statement. “As soon as the anonymous lead surfaced Tuesday, the Miami-Dade Schools police opened an investigation and an arrest was made. The individual’s employment with M-DCPS has been terminated and he will be prevented from any future work in the district M. DCPS will continue to take swift action against anyone who compromises our efforts to protect the wellbeing of our students. “
