Highschool soccer: St. John Bosco releases a 2021 schedule filled with heavyweight opponents
With the 2021 high school football season less than 100 days away, schools have started publishing their timetables. St. John Bosco (Bellflower, California), the 2019 MaxPreps National Champions, is the youngest to do so. Every year head coach Jason Negro puts together a challenging schedule and the 2021 season won’t be any different.
The Braves open the season on August 20th at the Nike Kickoff Classic. And while the adversary and location have not yet been revealed, multiple sources report that the likely adversary will be the Florida power, Miami Central. East St. Louis has won 19 of its last 20 games, including a 2019 6A title. The top-rated wide receiver in the 2022 class in the 247Sports composite rankings – Luther Burden – moved to power from Illinois before the spring, leading the Flyers to a 5-1 season with 35 receptions for 747 yards and seven touchdowns .
Oscar Smith is back after a 9-0 spring season and wins his first state title since 2011. The Tigers beat opponents 464-44 to beat South County (Lorton) 62:21 in the class 6 championship.
The Braves say goodbye a week after Oscar Smith before opening Trinity League action on October 1 at home against Mater Dei, Santa Ana, California. These two SoCal powers formed at the end of the spring season with a 34:17 victory for the Monarchs. Both teams bring back a lot of talent and will be placed in the top 5 when we release our MaxPreps Top 25 high school football leaderboard for the preseason on June 23rd.
Bosco’s regular season finale takes place against Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) On October 29, and the brothers are expected to start the 2021 season in the top 25.
This will be Negro’s 12th season as head coach and will make St. John Bosco a national power. He led the Braves to their first CIF Open Division State Championship in 2013 with Josh Rosen among the middle. They also won state titles in 2016 and 2019. DJ Uiagalelei led the team to the school’s first MaxPreps National Championship in 2019.
The talented Braves would fight for a second national championship in three seasons.
Five-Star Defensive End / Tight End Matayo Uiagalelei, four-star security RJ Jones, and four-star quarterback Pierce Clarkson are among the eight players rated three-star recruit or above in the 2023 class.
