Ohio Excessive College Soccer Championship Video games return to the Professional Soccer Corridor of Fame this fall

CANTON, Ohio – The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Wednesday that the Pro Football Hall of Fame will host the Canton state soccer championships this fall.

The games in the seven divisions of Ohio will be played at Tom Benson Stadium. The decision is part of a three-year agreement between the hall and the OHSAA.

“The OHSAA is excited about this three-year agreement with the Pro Football Hall of Fame as our student athletes, schools and communities will experience the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium and all that Canton and the Hall of Fame Village have to offer” said Doug Ute, executive director of the OHSAA. “We are grateful to the Hall of Fame for their partnership and look forward to working with the Hall all year round.”

Canton, Massillon, and Ohio State University have hosted state soccer championships in various locations for the past 30 years. OHSAA officials said the Hall of Fame’s association with football is an ideal place for fans and players alike.

“The Hall of Fame prides itself on treating OHSAA football teams and their fans the same way we treat the NFL teams and their fans,” said
Steve Strawbridge, Chief Administrative Officer of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, “We’re giving you a great experience while you are here. We guide the teams through the museum and promote the values of the game. We look forward to providing an exceptional experience for the players, coaches, families and fans who visit the games in Canton.

While other cities like Columbus were serious contenders to host the championship, OSHAA wanted to show that there are other venues in the state that can provide the experience to players and fans who are at the level to compete in a state championship.

“We just want a great experience for our kids and our communities. And so we’re dispersed. We have tennis in Cincinnati. We now have baseball softball in Akron. We have soccer in Canton. We have swimming and diving in Canton. But we also currently have field hockey, lacrosse, cross-country and those sports in Columbus, “said Ute.

The schedule will be similar to previous years – one game on Thursday evening, three games on Friday and three games on Saturday.
