Referee wanted for native highschool soccer season

The official football association of Los Padres needs officials for the next season.

The club is a short-term referee for the next season of high school football.

They are asking people who might be interested to come to Pioneer Valley High School in Santa Maria on Saturday.

They say voter turnout for referees is lower than usual after a year of being unable to play due to the pandemic.

“We had 80-90 officials this year. I think we’ve got down to 65 or so, so we need more officials, especially with the youth game coming back,” said Jerry Mrozek, vice president of the Los Padres Football Association.

Officials are paid for each game, but the referee learning course is free.

Classes are held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Pioneer Valley High.
