South Carolina Excessive College Soccer Corridor of Fame coach Phil Strickland will retire in late 2021

Newberry head coach Phil Strickland will retire from high school football coach later this season. Strickland announced its intentions earlier this week. This year, Strickland will be serving as his 34th year high school football head coach.

As head coach, Strickland never missed the postseason. He has won five state championships, two with Batesburg-Leesville (1995, 1999) and three with Gaffney (2003, 2005, 2006). Strickland took Newberry to three championship games but was unable to win a title with the Bulldogs.

Stickland, a member of the South Carolina Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, has 334 career wins.
