Struthers Wildcats Excessive Faculty Soccer Preview 2021
STRUTHERS, Ohio (WKBN) – After starting 2-1 into 2020, the Wildcats fell in each of their last four games to end the season 2-5. Two of their five losses were by touchdown (against Hubbard, 14-7; with Niles, 35-28).
“Last year put us to the test as a young squad,” says coach John Bayuk, who is heading into his second year as Struthers’ head coach. “I saw the struggle in them and their determination to get better. Nobody in the program, including myself, is satisfied with the way the last games of last season ended. As I watched them struggle through the adversities they faced and saw them grow in this off-season, I couldn’t be more proud of them. “
South Range aims to defend the Northeast 8 title without a cartridge
Dating back to Gary Zetts ‘first stint in 1986, the Wildcats have seen a surge in wins in six of their previous seven head coaches’ second seasons.
Struthers starts the new season in St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday, August 20.

Struthers won 168 yards per game on the ground in their seven games a year ago. Tyler Sanchez led the team in rushing with 490 yards with 100 carries and 2 scores.
Dylan Greenwood hit 47.1% of his throws (40-85) as he accumulated 628 yards through the air and completed 4 touchdown strikes. With Alec Grzyb (15 catches, 239 yards), Josh Marshall (11 catches, 208 yards) and Chaz Ekoniak (10 catches, 103 yards), he will bring back a trio of double-digit pass catchers from a year ago.
“If we have key players again this year, it will have a big impact on what we can do on the offensive,” said Bayuk. “A shorter off-season last year limited our options as we introduced a new offensive program. The work ethic of (Dylan) Greenwood, (Tyler) Sanchez, (Josh) Marshall, (Chaz) Ekoniak and (Alec) Grzyb has been impressive and will be a crucial factor in our success this season. All five of these players can be dangerous in their own way with the ball in hand. “
Anthony Mudryk and Jonathan Horton will cement the offensive front for Struthers this year.
