The countdown to NCFL highschool soccer begins

GAINESVILLE, Florida (WCJB) – Eastside High School hosted a media day for over 30 North Central Florida football teams on Monday.

Counties represented included Alachua, Marion, Levy, Union, Dixie, Columbia, and Gilchrist, to name a few. Schools with class sizes from 1A Lafayette to 8A West Port were present.

Players and coaches were just grateful to have a media day after not having much pre-season preparation due to the pandemic last year.

“We came from a COVID year and at that time last year we didn’t know that we would have a season,” said Quan Lee, Buchholz wide receiver. “I think it’s just a blessing to have a season this year, that’s the biggest thing for me.”

“I think football is a mainstay and it helps us all find a sense of normalcy,” said Lafayette head coach Marcus Edwards. “We are looking forward to it. As a coach, I know I’m looking forward to it and the boys are looking forward to it, we’ve worked hard this summer. “

“It was a bit easier to get back in, practicing all days and stuff in the summer, the summer was helpful and everything so we didn’t have to work around all that COVID stuff,” said Caleb Moncrief, Keystone Heights offensive lineman.

The teams are currently training in summer training until training officially begins on August 2nd.

The kick-off classics in the area will take place on August 20th.
