Back after a hiatus in 2020, casual and avid fans will get up close and personal for the first time at many coaches who were new to last season.
Each school’s coach will give a talk about their program, then he and two players will answer questions from Sports Editor Bill Murphy.
Will Cherokee Bluff have a 7-3A replay championship? The Bears lost some tremendous leadership positions last season but appear to be bristling with talent for fourth year.
And how does a seasoned Gainesville cadre fare against the six 7A public schools in Forsyth County? The Red Elephants will be worth it at Media Day, as their trainer Heath Webb is a natural at the microphone.
Will North Hall, second in the region twice in a row, be able to beat the hump and reclaim the regional title for the first time since 2012?
In the 7-3A region, too, West Hall seems to be a program that will make a serious run for a playoff spot from senior running back Tilil Blackwell and defensive back Jaden White, among others. What will Spartans manager Krofton Montgomery say about his 2021 squad?
At Flowery Branch, the team looks set for a great season but has to face Jefferson, led by the University of Georgia Malaki Starks (one of the nation’s top-rated athletes) and second sensation, Sammy Brown. for the Region 8-4A championship.
This will also be the first time we hear at Media Day from Lee Shaw, Lakeview Academy’s sophomore coach, who led the Lions into the postseason in his first season.
And at Lanier Christian, his first year coach Bruce Miller will talk about his squad, which plays in an eight league. Miller is the architect behind the most successful programs in Gainesville High history, including the 2012 Class 5A State Championship.
Miller, now retired, certainly still has a passion for football. And the Christian private school in South Hall is happy to have him at the helm.
Also at this event, we will hear for the first time from Johnson’s sophomore coach William Harrell, along with East Hall first year coach Matthew Turner.
High school football fans can pack the stands again in 2021 as the coronavirus threat to those vaccinated is a thing of the past.
However, this event gives viewers a chance to hear directly from the 11 men who run high school football programs in Hall County and learn more about their passion for developing good young men and playing as many games as possible win.
The event takes place in alphabetical order of the schools. The Flowery Branch performance will be pre-recorded as the team will leave for camp on the day of the event.
This event is not possible without the sponsors Northeast Georgia Health System, BGW Dental Group, Chick-fil-A and Jackson EMC as well as the collaboration of Hall County Schools, Gainesville City Schools and the three participating private schools.
See it live on July 21st on Facebook. Videos will also be available on Facebook and Gainesvilletimes.com after the event.
